Refresher!

For the past several days, I had the opportunity to go to a Christian School conference in Galveston, Texas. I have attended the ACSI or known as American Christian Schools International, for about the past six years. I always enjoy attending and learning new things! You can never learn enough!

This year was a little different. I had the privilege of a good friend and myself attending and traveling alone. It is amazing how God always has a plan and has the ability to open our eyes. We all know that positive enforcement and consistency with anything is always great! Well, we somehow get blindsided and overlook the joys and encouragement of everyday life. We forget that to build and educate great kids, we must encourage, encourage, and encourage. A child must at least hear one positive thing in relation with their name each day. That sounds so easy, how do we forget and make the mistake of not doing so.

It is sad to say that we all get so busy and wrapped up in our own needs and lose sight of the bigger picture. Yes, I pray. Yes, I read my bible. But, do I always acknowledge and recognize someone each day in a positive way? I like to think I do, but after being refreshed and energized, I quickly realized that I need to step it up. Just a few words of encouragement can merely change and alter our entire moral and those around us.

I Know they dont count as kids, but I had to add my great retired neighbors too!

I love to take pictures and I think my neighbors are glad that I love to take pictures! Even though it may take me forever to get them handed over, they still know that they will eventually get them! The paying jobs always take priority. Halloween was not only a great evening of treat or treating and fun, but it was my husbands 35th birthday. It is very sad that I am just now getting around to this post! I figured what a great day to share all of our kids great costumes and pay a little respect to the King. Well, not my king. That would be God! But, the King of Rock and Roll! Thank you very much!

New Year!

When I first started blogging, I was full force. My husband told me I was obsessed and so I slowly stepped away from the computer. This past year has been a year of its own. Yes, there were times of joy, but times of sadness as well. Just when I thought I couldn't take any more, I found the strength to pull through and I am still pulling! I am excited for a new year and a new way of priortizing the things that are most important. I am not one to have a New Year resolution or even list for that matter. I just try to think of things and places where I fall short and how I can improve.
We have started the year off by starting another project. We purchased our home almost three years ago and it has been a constant project. You see, the house was horrid! We had previously built a custom austin stone home on 2.5 acres. From travertine to slate to granite, there was no need for any updates. We later realized that the school district was not exactly where we wanted our children to attend. Our home was quickly put on the market and quickly sold. At the time our great friends had a mobile home on property that was basically brand new. We moved in and we were so excited to have the option where we could take our time to find a home or build again. Obviously in a better school district. Well, the friendship ended due to circumstances on their behalf and we had to find a home within a week to move to.
We found our now house on the market for sale and figured we would have to find some place to lease until a purchase of home. To make a long story short, the owner had already moved out and the buyers loan had fallen through. The owner let us move in that week and we closed on our home 4 weeks later. I know it was all in Gods hands and it was his timing. We fell in love with our horrid home because it is on five lots with a pool and spa one block from the lake. We could easily forget about the light house wall paper and seashell sink! Not really, but ever since we have updated one room at time. Our nice vacations have turned into bathroom remodeling, new 4th bedroom, mud room, pantry, etc.
My new laundry room and pantry should be finished within the newt few days! I have washed clothes by hooking up our washing machine with a garden house, and it is definitely time!

First Baptist Academy

October 19 would have been my son Colby's 9th birthday. It is so hard to believe. In 2004 at the age of 3, he was diagnosed with Leukemia and soon after the Lord took him home. Colby attended First Baptist Academy for a short time and FBA is where I still work to this day. Our school has been such a blessing to my family. In honor of Colby's birthday, our students donated a dollar a day to wear free dress instead of uniforms to help a friend with cancer. We raised almost $200.00. I am so proud of our kiddos for their support and donations!

I recently had the opportunity to take photos for a good friend. She was an absolute doll and we couldnt have had a better time. I managed to fit her in on her families tight schedule and in the middle of me finishing up my CDA class.

All the kids were checking out Chloe's fish in the bucket. He wasnt much for size, but the thrill that someone caught a fish is always entertaining around here!

Chloe caught her first fish! We have the opportunity to live by the lake and although we spend much time outdoors, this was Chloe's first time to catch a fish. Her barbie fishing pole has caught several, but in other hands than her own. In fact, her barbie pole has caught one of our biggest fish ever!

Teacher Luncheon

I recently hosted our schools teacher appreciation luncheon at my home. It was so much fun to move furniture out and decorate. I work at First Baptist Academy as the Business Administrator. My children have had most all of our wonderful teachers and this was just a small part of how we could say thank you. A few good friends helped set up and tear down. There were a total of about 30 of us. My aunt catered the food and did a marvelous job. I cant wait to do this again next year. We had a blast!

Memorial Day!

We have the most amazing neighbors which happen to be not just our neighbors, but great friends. God has truly blessed us with living on the best street in the world! We have lived here for just two years and we have traditions already in place. We have a Libra Ct. parade for both the fourth of July and Memorial Day. We have several military families and you can see in some pictures that Nick which is a Marine, is letting the kids know what Memorial Day truly means. Thanks Nick!

Mud room

We recently moved our laundry room, added a fourth bedroom and turned our old laundry room into a hallway/mud room/computer area. Although it is very multifunctional I would like for it to be a true mudroom one day. I could then turn our guest bedroom closet into a computer and work area. this is ideally what I want it to look like. These photos are from www.bhg.com. I am not sure if it is that Spring is here or what, but I feel like getting rid of all the neutral in my home. For the first time ever, I am ready for color, color, color and more color! Maybe it is since my floors are so dark now. I am not sure, but forever reason, I am ready for color! It could be that for years I have been afraid of taking chances. I painted my whole kitchen wall over a year ago with chalkboard paint. Everyone thought I was crazy and wouldnt you know, everyone is now using chalkboard paint everywhere! I love blues! I always hated my Mom's blue everything, and now I finally agree. Dont you just hate it the older you get, the more you become your mother in ways! I promised my husband to take a break from house projects, so I will. Hopefully when school is out and I am not working 60 hours a week, I can paint again!

This morning was so pleasant to be home with Chloe and all our dogs! The boys were at batting practice so I did a little cleaning and a little searching for ideas for my good friend Heba's kitchen. She is wanting to paint her cabinets and cant decide on what color. They are white now and she is ready for something new. Her kitchen is big and it is really exciting that she can do so much with it! she has a victorian/country style home with a huge porch and plenty of square feet. If you have any ideas please send them my way!

Our son Blake and our dear friend Savannah recently shot a commercial/ banner for Woodlands Church in the Woodlands, Texas. Pastor Kerry Shook's new message series is "Where the Wild Things Are." The kids had a blast filming! I think they are ready for Hollywood now! WoodlandsChurch normally broadcasts to about 60 million viewers. Blake wonders if anyone will notice him. Too funny! Pastor Kerry has an amazing gift from God and we are truly blessed to be a part of it all!

Today is my birthday and my friends have been so dear to me today! I have been wanted a trunk for Colby's things for quite some time. I have not been able to find one that i thought would be suitable. Either they were too old, too girlie, or just too expensive. My good friend Neile thought all this up on her own and little did i know that she had been screening me for months now! My other good friend Kara and her husband Tommy are amazing! Kara painted and Tommy built. Isnt it awesome! The pictures were taken at our school First Baptist Academy in Conroe, Texas. Colby lost his life to Leukemia at age three. Thanks guys!

Much needed space

This used to be our laundry room. Our new bedroom was added just behind that door. My son had clothes everywhere, so I shut the door! I am so happy to have an area to use my laptop and print! These are the floors that we will eventually add throught the house.

We have recently started tearing out carpet and painting our concrete for the time being. We used Valspars's browstone which I found on thisyounghouse blog. Our long term goal is to put down the same wood floors throughout the house that are in our kitchen, new bedroom addition, and mud room. Anyway, I plan to add some new rugs and maybe even repaint our kitchen! My husband will just die if I pull out anymore paint right now. We just repainted our bedroom and I will post photos soon! Blue, Blue, Blue! I love it!

I still have alot of work to do, but our two bathroom remodels took most of our budget for thisd year! Still some improvement!

I was searching http://www.har.com/ today searching for homes and came across the mls listing from when our home was for sale. I was so excited because I now finally have pics of my kitchen before we moved in. I immediately started tearing down wallpaper as soon as the keys were handed to me. I remember now why I felt so overwhelmed!

I also added a picture of my Mom's antique ice box from 1901. This was her favorite piece of furniture and my Dad recently brought it to me from storage. I was afraid it would be too big for our home, but I am so happy it is here now. My Mom would be so excited!

Last week I was able to paint my table that I had been looking to replace. The top of it was tiled with pink tile that matched our first house that we purchased in 2000. We have since built, sold, rented, and bought again. This table has moved many times! I am so glad to see it with a different look!

It seems as though every morning my children look bigger and bigger. I have been so busy lately that I have slacked on taking candids of them. It makes me sad! Tonight was my evening with Chloe! The boys went to baseball and we enjoyed taking pictures of the sunset and getting ice cream! She insisted that we would have so much more fun if we went to Target to get more Littlest Pet Shop's! I tried explaining to her how fortunate we are to have beautiful sunsets to enjoy. Yeah right! The day has come and now passed. Our auction was very successful and we couldnt be more excited! We were concerned with how the economy would effect us this year. We have such amazing people that contributed to the success. Our class portraits, theme baskets, and class projects were over the top!

This Friday is our 7th annual Art Show and Auction at the school that I work for. I have worked there for six years this August. We want to let our families and contributors know what our school means to us. We are blessed beyond educating our young minds! Our school is a family to all new and old. We all have stories and strive to show love and support to all. This year Iwanted our auction to begin on a bit of a different note. I want to share our family and students stories. Including mine.

Our son Colby lost his life to leukemia at the age of three. He was a student at our school including my two other children as well. Blake was in kindergarten and Chloe was in the toddler class when they lost their brother. It was such a blessing to know that our children were taken care of, loved, and prayed with while times were extremely tough. Our staff and families took care of us in so many ways.

As well as several other families, I plan to share our testimony too. So many people do know...but so many do not. I hope that it will inspire many and let them know how wonderful it is to be a Mom, friend, and Business Administrator at First Baptist Academy of Conroe, Texas. I ask for your prayers that I may communicate what is on my heart.

Mackinac Island

We have visited Mackinac Island several times now. It is one of my favorite places on earth. The homes and gardens are amazing. The horses are kept warm in their stalls wearing burberry coats! The entire Island is restricted from vehicles. Trasportation is by horse or bike only! My perfect world! Horses and more horses! The views are incredible and the fudge is world famous. There are many options in accomadations and a wide vast of restaurants. And did I mention

"fudge"? These are not the best pictures. They are from my blackberry.

We have been in our home almost two years now. We are constantly remodeling. We found our home with a fairly new pool and five lots one block from the lake. It was hidious when we first saw it. We are progressing one project at a time. Sometimes two! It has been an adventure considering our last home we had built!

Today was a little cold, but definitely a beautiful day. We recently went in half and bought a boat with some friends! We enjoyed driving around looking at homes. The sun helped us from getting too cold. It was just perfect! We cant wait for summer!

February 21, 2009, we attended an event fundraiser in Galveston, Texas for UTMB after the hurricane. Mardi Gras themed and tuxedo attire! The Landry owners hosted an eventful evening of music, fashion show, tribute of daughters and wonderful food.

Galveston Conference

I grew up every summer going to spend time on Galveston Island. Since it is only two hours away, it is always an easy vacation! Every year I attend the ACSI conference to earn my in service hours that are mandated by the state. This year was different. We look forward to the great seafood and shopping on the strand is always the best! Dont forget about the candy stores. Last weekend was a huge heart ache. The stores were still closed and the restaurants that we love so much were barely open. I mean barely because the whole place is not completely ready. Our favorite lunch spot, fuddruckers, is still closed. It saddened me greatly. Here are just a few photos that I grabbed on the way out. Did I mention Starbucks was still closed? Come on people. Where is the help?
